This is the page about the Spectrum +3. My spectrum came all the way from Keighley. I pestered my parents until they agreed to take me and get it. I particularly wanted this machine as I was fed up of having to wait for tapes on the original spectrums. The old spectrum always seemed to have a habit of not saving any of programs properly! :-)
Anyway, it uses the same 3 inch disk drive used in the Amstrad PCW 8000 series. A bit of a coincidence as when this machine was made Amstrad owned the rights to the Sinclair Spectrum name. Another coincidence is that it looks almost identical to Amstrads machine, the CPC 6000 series, odd? It is capable of playing all the old 48k games as it has a 48k mode built in. However, it also has a new version of BASIC in it (funnily enough, called +3BASIC) that has added features over the 48k version. Also, the disk drive can not be used in the 48k mode, but it does have a tape port as well.
